Jacob Lovenstein and Anna Oppleman Anniversary Party
Submitted by
Linda Cyers,
great niece of Max Lovenstein, third cousin of Jacob and Anna
Photo taken 1945 in Richmond, Va., at an anniversary party given for
Anna Oppleman and husband, Jacob Lovenstein. These are not the
descendants of William Lovenstein but are the descendants of Max
Lovenstein and Rebecca Barker of Russia who arrived in the US in 1875.
Max Lovenstein was the son of Julius and Rebecca Lovenstein and Rebecca
Barker was the daughter of Aaron Michal Barker and Jidas Kanzor of Kovno,
Lithuania. Max left his family during the 1890s to head out west to pan
for gold. Jacob tried to convince him to return home but he was never
heard from again. Rebecca Barker's sister, Jennie Barker ended up
marrying Isaac Scher. She was so pious a person that Jennie Scher Road
was named for her.
