Bernard Leo HEFFERNAN 23 MAY 1883, Aurora, Cayuga County, NY -23 JAN 1928
Sandwich, IL.. He was baptized 27 MAY 1883 at St. Patrick's Roman Catholic,
Aurora, Cayuga Co, NY by Rev. T. A. HENDRICK with sponsors: Patrick MCDERMOTT
and Margarita GILLESPIE. In Moravia\Cayuga \NY, he attended four years at St.
Andrew Prep Seminary where he graduated. After a few years as a school teacher,
he studied philosophy at St. Bernard's Seminary in Rochester, NY for two years,
and Mount St. Mary's College in Emmitsburg, MD for one year where he was
ordained as a Roman Catholic Priest 03 MAY 1917 in the Chapel of the Immaculate
Conception. His first solemn High Mass was said at St. Patrick’s in Aurora NY
Sunday 06 MAY 1917 at 10:30AM.
As a Roman Catholic Priest he served the Rockford IL Roman Catholic Diocese
(incardinated 13 NOV 1914 - ordained 3 MAY 1917) at Galena till 25 SEP 1919 as
Asst. Pastor of St. Mary's Parish, Rockford IL as Chaplain St. Anthony Hospital
& taught at St. Thomas H. S. till 01 NOV 1925, & Sandwich IL as Pastor of St.
Mary's Parish till his death in 1928.
...He was the son of John HEFFERNAN & Mary Ann GILLESPIE of Aurora & Scipio,
Cayuga Co., NY where they farmed.
