Family of Dr. Harvey Daniel Hill and wife Mary Emmaline (Fookes) Hill,
Augusta, Butler County, Kansas, c. 1888.
Standing, left to right, are sons: Harvey Almon Hill (1872-1949);
James Robley Hill (1874-1931); and Virgil White Hill (1869-1946).
Daughter Mary Eve Hill (1887-after 1930) is held by her father.
Dr. Harvey Daniel Hill (1839-1913) was born in Delaware County, Ohio, the son of
Caleb and Elizabeth (White) Hill; after discharge from the Union Army, he earned
his MD at Michigan State, and removed to Kansas in 1867 where he became the
first physician in Butler County. He served three terms in the Kansas
Legislature. His wife Mary Emmaline was born in Fairfield County, Ohio, the
daughter of James Fookes. All of these individuals, except Mary Eve, are buried
in the Hill family plot, Walnut Grove Cemetery, in Augusta, Kansas.
