John Thomas Tewell Smith & sons Babe & Red in Oklahoma

Taken abt. 1910 this photo was provided to me by BJKirksey of our great grandfather John Thomas Tewell Smith and younger sons, Babe- Otto Constantine & Red-Lee Omar Smith. Perlina Anna Smith Tewell and John Thomas Tewell had 7 sons: James M, Richard E, Charles Thurman, Judah Grover, John Norris, Lee Omar, and Otto Constine. The story of the last name change from Tewell to Smith came as a result of an escape from being imprisioned for a crime he did not committ in Arkansas. The family was on the run from Arkansas west into Nebraska, Kansas and finally Oklahoma. John Thomas Tewell was the son of Richard & Delia (Cissell) Tewell of Martin Co., Indiana and Perlina was the daughter of Christina (McLean) and James Smith of Lawrence Co., Arkansas.
