Cephas Dodd Sharp

Submitted by Ira Sharp Dennis

Cephas Dodd Sharp, son of Zachariah and Elizabeth Yoders Sharp. He was born in 1834 Washington County, PA, and died in 1863 at Gettysburg during the Civil War.

Cephas was the grandson of Old Isaac and Mary Wolverton/ Woolverton Sharp of Washington and Greene Counties, PA. He was named after Dr. Cephas Dodd, a noted Physician and Presbyterian cleric. Dr. Dodd was well know in the Washington County, PA area and lived next to the Sharp family. He may have delivered some of Old Isaac's children. The name Cephas is carried down through the Sharp family through five known generations.

His brother Manean wrote a tribute to him in his little booklet written for a Memorial Day Celebration.

Note at bottom of picture in his hand writing: Your Brother, Cephas D. Sharp. This photo was in his sister's Mary Ann Sharp Hughes' possessions.
