Friggle Oil WellSubmitted by William Cunningham, grandson of Martha Maud Sopher Friggle The first oil well drilled in the late 1890s on the Friggle homestead located on the Bredinsberg Road outside of Franklin, PA. The woman on the fence, in the middle, is the grandmother of William Cunningham, Martha Maud Sopher Friggle who was born on Apr 2, 1874 in Wesley, Pa and died Sept 22, 1932 in Bredinsburg, Pa. She is buried in the Franklin Cemetery. The first woman on the left is Martha's mother, Salena Francis Weston Sopher who was born October 2, 1844 in Venango County and died Jan 3, 1907. She is buried in Amity-Mt. Irwin Cemetery, Irwin Twp., Venango, Pa. The woman and child on the fence to the right is Nell Call and her son Jean who were neighbors of the Friggles.
