Home of Johannes Many, Sr. (John Mohney, Sr.)

Submitted by Clarence R. Shirey, son of Mary A. Shaffer Shirey.  Permission granted for use on this site only.

Home of Johannes Many, Sr. (John Mohney, Sr.) and Catherina Wagener Many, built in 1824, in what later became Alcola, PA, now located in Clarion County.  The house was located along the Railroad (if you look closely bottom of picture you can see one track, therefore this is the “rear” view of the house) and present Route # 28.

It was torn down, except for its foundation, which had been there until early 1990’s when Rte. 28 was widened and the underpass under the train tracks to Oak Ridge, was lowered and they tore out all the stone. It was said to be the first stone house in the area.  The nameplate on the chimney had their names on it and the year it was built. If you look closely you can see it.
