Jacob Michael Thomas (1795-1881), father of Catherine
Thomas Rishel.
Farmer, businessman and preacher. One of the founding members of the
Sandy Creek Congregation, in the West Virginia/Pennsylvania area. By all
written accounts, one of the most respected men in the area. Spoke and
wrote English and German equally well and was an earnest student of the bible.
Ministered the Church of the Brethren for over 50 years, and gave his final
sermon at 85 years of age.
Photo found in the Allegheny Passage by Emmert Bittinger, a history of the
many congregations of the Church of the Brethren.
