John Frederick Keck (1848-1891) was born in Germany and immigrated to the US in the
1860s. He lived in Broadford, Fayette Co., PA, and was a pit boss in a coal mine nearby and was said to have worked side by side with
Henry Clay Frick. His wife, Christina Schele Keck died in 1890 at the age of 35, leaving him with several young children to care for. The next year he was clubbed to death for refusing to take part in a strike. Photo
