Milford Dean Shirey Submitted by LaVonne R. Hanlon, great granddaughter of Catherine Davenport Shirey Milford Dean Shirey, grandson of Catherine Davenport Shirey. Milford was 24 years old when he was mortally wounded on Normandy Beach on D-Day. He died the following week and was buried in France. In 1946 his body was returned to the USA and he now rests in the National Cemetery, Winchester, VA. He left his wife, Elizabeth, who was expecting their first child along with his father,
Noah Doty Shirey (who moved to Fayette County
after marrying), a brother, Robert Dale Shirey and a sister, Donna Lee Shirey. His mother,
Sarah, died in 1943. Milford was raised in Star Junction,
Fayette Co, PA.
