Panorama of Downtown Pittsburgh
Submitted by Denis
Altenburger, great grandson of Conrad Altenburger
Panoramic view of downtown Pittsburgh, probably taken from on
top of the county courthouse. To the left is Fifth Avenue and directly
across is Duquesne University.
Conrad Altenburger took this photograph
when he was working for either Trinity Court Studios or the old Gazette
-Times, where he was in charge of the art department. He was a well
known artist in the city and had several paintings that were in the Carnegie
for shows.
Photo probably taken before WWI and before the Armstrong tunnels were
put in.
