Both Patrick and Maria worked in the Washington Woolen Mill in Lawrence, MA, before moving to Beaver County, PA.

Patrick and Maria became the parents of five living children.  The oldest was Mary Ann O'Keane/ O'Kane.  Her brothers were William, John and Frank, and her little sister was Margaret.  After the death of Maria Stakem O'Keane/Kane 3 May 1880, the children were place in the St. Paul's RC Orphanage in Pittsburgh.
