Rev. David P. Lefever
Rev. David P. Lefever died on April 26, 1917,
aged 79 years, 3 months and 21 days. He was born near Gettysburg and spent his
early days on the farm. During the Civil War he joined the 149th Pennsylvania
Infantry. At the battle of Spottsylvania Court House he was wounded, losing his
right arm near the shoulder. After the war he decided to study for the ministry.
He graduated from Dickinson College, and from the Theological Seminary,
Lancaster, in 1874. For twenty years thereafter he served as a missionary in the
Reformed Church, spending twelve years in Iowa, and later in various places in
Maryland and North Carolina, He retired in 1885, locating in Reading, Pa.
