Rev. T. J. BarkleyRev. T. J. Barkley. D. D. was born September 25,
1833 and died in Gettysburg, Pa., on May 22, 1917. He was graduated from
Heidelberg University in 1858 and from the Seminary in 1860. He was honored by
the degree of Doctor of Divinity by his Alma Mater in 1894. During his ministry
of fifty-six years he served churches at Delmont, Rimersburg, Grace, Pittsburgh,
Sunbury and at the time of his death was pastor-emeritus of Trinity Church,
Gettysburg. He was pastor of Trinity Church for thirty-two years and eight
months. He was Stated Clerk and Treasurer of Westmoreland Classis and assisted
in its division. He assisted in the organization of Pittsburgh Synod and was
president for one year. He was Stated Clerk of East Susquehanna Classis; took
part in the founding of St. Paul's Orphans' Home and was for ten years President
of its Board of Managers. He was a member of the Tri-Synodic, Bi-Synodic and
Secretary of the Home Mission Board for twelve years. He was a delegate to ten
meetings of General Synod; a member of the Board of Visitors of Eastern
Theological Seminary; of the Board of Trustees of Potomac Synod, Secretary of
that Synod and President for one year, a member of the Board of Directors of
Hoffman Orphanage and its President from its organization. Obituaries including Portraits and Biographical
