Rev. Thomas Fleming Stauffer

Rev. Thomas Fleming Stauffer, born in Dry Ridge,
Westmoreland Co, PA, Dec 25, 1838, son of John and Eleanor
"Nellie" Sowash Stauffer.
He paid the US Government $300 gold to
escape the Civil War Draft and remain in seminary in Mercersburg, PA. He nursed
wounded and dying soldiers after the battle of Gettysburg, and later served
churches in Wilkensburg, Butler, Pittsburgh before volunteering for mission work
in the west. He was a prominent member of the Dutch Reformed
Churches.
Rev. Thomas Fleming Stauffer was the oldest
brother of John Herman Stauffer and an uncle of Alice
Maude Stauffer.
