Walter Doverspike was from New Bethlehem, PA. He graduated from Clarion State Normal School (later called Clarion State Teachers College) in 1923.
Walter was on the Varsity Basketball team, the football team, tennis team and the yearbook staff. He also was involved with the Y.M.C.A. and the Bancroft Literary Society. The Sequelle, 1923, Clarion State Normal School Yearbook had this to say about Walter:
"If it weren't for 'Dovey' how would our game scores stand? If we ever need a touchdown, 'Dovey' is sure to come to the rescue and go over the line in the last second. Not only is he first and foremost in athletics, but he is also in demand on the dance floor. His genial personality has won for him a host of friends who all wish him success."
