Baker Reunion
Submitted by William
Baker
Left to right:
Jim Baker, seated (with the
beard), beside him are his Civil War drums. Jim served the entire war, in the 111th Pennsylvania Volunteers. He reached the
rank of drum major and was chief musician.
Behind him is second wife Emma Bates Swart Baker.
Next to Emma, hand resting on a drum, is Irve Baker, Jim's youngest brother. Irve was a barber in Sherman, NY.
Next to Irve is his wife, Minnie.
Formidable lady standing beside the chair is sister Mary Baker Pearce. Mary
lived in Morris, MN. Photo on the chair is thought to be Josiah
"Si" Baker, another of Jim's brothers. Si was a first lieutenant in the 145th
Pennsylvania Volunteers, killed May 10, 1864 at the Po River battle, northern Virginia.
Short fellow with blonde hair is Jim's nephew Harold Baker.
His parents, Dr. Clint and Laura Baker were deceased. Harold volunteered during WWI, after which he
lived and worked in Washington State.
Next to Harold are Irve's kids Jessie and Lewis
Baker. They lived in Sherman.
Seated to the right of the drum, are sisters Adelia
"Deal" Baker Bates and Ellen Baker Symons. Deal ran the family farm in West Spring Creek for a
while, she was probably living in Spartansburg when she died. Ellen lived in Elyria, Ohio, was a grade school principal.
The tanned fellow standing at the far right is Deal's son Frank
Bates. He worked for the power company in Union City and was accidentally electrocuted.
