Glenn Andrew Barnes

Submitted by Jacquelyn Mumbach, great great granddaughter of Andrew E. and Abigail Sherrod

Glenn Andrew Barnes fixing watches. He was born March 24, 1889 in Spring Twp., Crawford Co., PA; died Sept. 24, 1934 in Cussewago Twp., PA and is buried in East Spring Cemetery.

Glenn Andrew Barnes was the second son of David P. and Elnora C. Sherrod Barnes (of the Sherrods of Sherrod Hill, Erie Co). He suffered from a progressive crippling of arms and legs while still a young man. He was able to propel a chair with wheels by using his feet. He could rest his arms on a worktable and was able to repair watches and clocks using his fingers. Glenn enjoyed the visits of the many who came to his workshop in the Barnes family home. He died at home of pneumonia at age 45.

Photograph by Carl Barnes, an avid photographer and took pictures at many family gatherings and the Sherrod Family Reunions. He was also a photographer for the Bessemer and L. E. Railroad. Carl was the first son of David P. and Elnora Sherrod Barnes. He was born March 30, 1884 in Spring Twp., Crawford Co., PA. He died January 15, 1950, after a battle of several years with multiple sclerosis.
