
Hon. S. Newton Pettis, of Meadville, son of Solomon and Ruth House Pettis, was born in Lenox, Ashtabula Co., Ohio, Oct 10, 1827.
He was involved in politics and held the office of President Judge of the Crawford County Courts.
In Sept 1852, he married Miss Emma L. Wightman. They became the parents of three children: Gertrude Wylie, married to Capt. John W. Pullman, A. Q. M., U. S. Army; Herbert Ray, and Rush, who died at age fourteen.
