Wiser, Sr., born 7 Oct 1864, Linesville, PA; died 12 Dec 1900, Louisville, KY, married Mary Etta Adams. Marcus L. Wiser Sr. was the son of son of Eli B. and Mary E. Slocum Wiser of Linesville and the grandson of Harmon and Mary E. Gallup Wiser who are buried in Linesville Cemetery. Marcus L. "Mark" Wiser left Crawford County, PA in 1861 for Branch County, MI, where on 17 Aug 1861 at Coldwater, he enlisted in the Union Forces for 3 Years of service. He enrolled in Captain Barretts' Company (1st Northwestern Rifle Regiment) , which later became Company B 44th Illinois Infantry. He was at the Battle of Chaplin Hills, KY, and then transferred to Company F 15 Regt. Veterans' Reserve Corps. He was discharged at Washington, D.C. on 24 Aug 1864. He reenlisted 9 Sept 1864, at Dunkirk, New York, for 1 year, in Company H 90th Regt. N.Y. Vol. Infantry. Transferred to Co. F 90th Battalion, N.Y. Infantry, he was reported missing in action at Cedar Creek, Virginia on 19 Oct 1864. Prisoner of War records show him captured at Cedar Creek on 19 Oct 1864, confined at Richmond VA, Oct 23, and sent to Salisbury, NC. 4 Nov 1864. He escaped from Salisbury on 5 May 1865 and rejoined the Union Forces at Lexington, KY, reported to Camp Parole, Maryland 23 May 1865 and was discharged at New York City 20 June 1865. On 27 Mar 1864, in Owen Township, Clark Co., IN, Marcus L. Wiser married Nancy M. Bowyer, daughter of Felix Bowyer (1818-1760) and Lucy Hawkins (b. 1813). She was born 14 Feb 1846 in Bowyers Landing, Clark Co., IN, and died 19 Jan 1936 in Charlestown, IN. They became the parents of:
