second from left, son of Truman Beard
(1837-1903), lived in Mahonington and was a police officer for 8 years in
New Castle.
Photo caption: C. C. Horner, left
of the mayor in the second row, was chief. He is also the present chief.
During the 20 odd years between his demotion and promotion he was a patrolman
and detective.
