The home of millionaire William D.
Hofius, great grandson of Johan Theodor Hofius
located at Spring Street and Boren Avenue in Seattle, Washington. The
mansion remains much as it was when built by W. D. Hofius in 1902.
William D. Hofius started his
career in the iron and steel business at the Geddis Foundry in Sharpsville
unloading iron ore with a shovel. He soon there after became owner
operator of various steel making operations in New York, Pennsylvania and Ohio
before going West. He settled in Seattle, Washington and became President
of Hofius Steel and Equipment Company, President of Seattle Dock Company,
Director of the Superior Portland Cement Company and Director of the First
National Bank of Seattle by the time of his death in 1912.
