Joseph Johnson Hoffman

Joseph Johnston Hoffman, born abt 1836-1837 in West
Greenville, Mercer Co., PA.; died 22 March 1874 in Pioche, Lincoln Co., NV. His
parents were Jefferson Stiteler Hoffman and Mariah Johnston.
He was a brother to James McGinnis Hoffman and Rev.
George Washington Hoffman.
Joseph worked as a clerk and forwarding agent for the Union Pacific Railroad during the construction of the "Great Iron Belt" linking the east coast with
the west coast after the Civil War.
His obituary read as follows:
The following notice was published in the Pioche Daily Record:
Hoffman, J. J. Died, March 22, 1874 Pioche, Nevada.
Rupture of aneurerisn formed in pericardium. Dropped dead while doing
business in the office of Felsenthal.
