Robert
Mills

Robert Mills, was the son of the immigrants Robert and Mary Moore (or
Moon) Mills, who emigrated from Co. Tyrone in Ireland around 1831. They had six children at the time: Joseph (1821-1841), James (1825-1900), Eliza (1828- ), John
(abt 1830-1854), William Lyle (1830-1856), and Mary
(abt 1831-1897) who was born at sea (according to her obituary).
They went first to Pittsburgh, then later moved to Perry Township in Mercer Co., where they stayed. Nine more children were born there: Jane A. (1834- ), Robert (1836-1890), Andrew (1839- ), Thomas
(abt 1840- ), Jane Ann (1840-1924), Casindowny (1842-1878), David (1845-1892), Sarah (1846-1880)
and Ellen (after 1847- ).
Robert was Episcopalian and Mary was Presbyterian. Many of their graves are in the family plot at the
Cool Spring Cemetery.
Robert Mills, 22 Apr
1836 - 19 Mar 1890, (pictured above) was the 5th son; he was born in Mercer County on
23 Apr 1836. He served in the Civil War from 29 Aug 1862 to 20 May 1865. He married Rebecca McQuiston, daughter of John McQuiston and Sarah
Long, and they moved to East Fallowfield Township in Crawford County. They had two
children, Sarah and Fred. Robert and most of his family are buried at
Rocky Glen Cemetery near Adamsville, PA.
