Add Your Family's Photos

Here's to have your family's photos added to the site if you don't have a scanner.  There are several ways to do this.

Best quality.  Have color photocopies made of the photographs.  Take the photos to some place like Kinko's, Office Depot, or Staples and have them make a color copy of the photographs.  Usually, you can get two photos to an 8 1/2" by 11" piece of paper and the cost is usually about $1.00 to $1.50 per page.  And, the quality is amazing.  Then, send me the copies.  I'll scan them and send them back to you - and you can give the copies to a relative.

Good quality.  If you have a large photograph (anything over 8 1/2" by 11"), the best thing to do is to take a photograph of the photograph.  Use good lighting - take the photo outdoors if you can.  If the picture is in a frame with glass over it, be careful of getting the glare from the glass.  This works really well with large wall-hanging photos.  Get the film processed and mail me the photographs you took.  I'll scan them and send them back to you. Or, if you use a digital camera - just email me the photos you took.

Pretty good quality.  Sometimes, you can make a regular photocopy of the photograph and have it come out well.  The photos that work best have more light than dark in them and not a lot of areas covered in solid black.  Here's a really good example. As you can see, there were no areas of solid black and the photo has a lot of white and gray tones, so it came out well.

Information. However you send the photographs, include some information about the people and place in the picture.  You can type the information into a word processing program (Word, Works, Word Perfect, etc.) and mail me a CD or floppy disk with the copies of the photographs. More information on writing copy.

Contact.  However you send the photographs, please include your name and email address, so you can be listed as the submitter.  Also, be sure to send me your mailing address, too, so I can send the photos back to you.  (Don't laugh, this has happened more than once.)

Where to send the photos.  Email me for my mailing address.
