What
if there are living individuals in my old photos? That's OK. Let's
respect their privacy, though. Include their names, but not birth
dates, marriage
dates, addresses, etc.
I
have a lot of old photos, can you link them together? Yes, we'll
call them a "collection". Click here to see an example of this.
What
about old photo postcards? Do you want those too? Yes, send them
just like they were photos.
I
have photos that I don't know who the people are, can I send them? Yes,
but tell me everything you know... like "photo came from the album
of..." "photo found in an old shoe box belonging to.."
"probably a member of the Smith family.." Anything that will
help your photo get identified.

I
want to send in a photo I borrowed from a relative. Can I do that? Yes.
Tell us your relatives name an we can say something like
"Submitted by [your name], Photo courtesy of [your relative's name].
I
have the photo, but it once was my Aunt's photo, how will you list that? Yes,
we'll say something like:
"Submitted by [your name] from the collection of [your aunt's name].

I
notice a lot of photos on the site that have no submitter, where did they
come from or can you put me in contact with the submitter?
Many came from old high school yearbooks or other old books. In this
case, the source in indicated in the photo description Many of the photos that do not list a submitter are from
my personal collection, so they are either photos of my family and
ancestors, or photos or postcards that I've acquired. And
occasionally, a submitter prefers to remain anonymous.
The
photos used here came from these pages: Erie PA Collection,
Clair Brady, Unknown
Gallery, Unknown Gallery,
Unknown Gallery, Hopwood Collection |

How
do I contact the submitter of a photo?
Just
click on the name of the submitter and an email box should come
up.

Why
don't you want the names typed out on the photograph? When
the search engine scans the page for information, it sees only what is
typed on the web page not the word typed on the image - so if your information is typed on the photo, it won't be
included in the search. Also, often photos are resized (like the
ones you see here) for the main pages. Photos with type don't
resize very well.
Some
of my relatives lived in several states. Which state do I list
them for?
List all the
states - and we'll put the photo in each
section.

My
ancestors lived in Berks County, PA and then they moved to Illinois. Some of the photos were taken in
Arkansas. Is it
OK to send those, too?
Yes.

I'd
like to send in several photos - do I email them separately or all
together.
Your
choice. But - if you attach them all to one email. Type
a description for each photo (for example gram4.jpg is Millie
Taylor Smith, born....; fred.jpg is ...) Please don't send a
family group sheet for me to figure out (it's hard enough to figure out
my own family :-)
What
can I do to help my photo get on line quicker?
Photos are
added manually, so the easier the photo copy is to understand, the
better. Here are some things you can do to help.

How
old does the photo have to be?
Ideally, pre-1960s. Most of the photos are from the late
1800s to about 1950 and there are some more recent. When you send in more
recent ones, please respect the privacy of living people.
 Still
have a question and it wasn't answered here?
