Sonneborn, York,
Pa, great-great Samuel Krise
Samuel Krise was born 11 Sept 1804 in Lebanon,
Pa, son of Philip Kreis and Anna Catherine Bruch.
He moved with his parents to Centre County, Pa, near Aaronsburg, then to Buffalo
Run near Bellefonte, PA, and then to a farm 2 1/2 miles north of Pleasant Gap.
He was a school teacher by occupation. He married
Dorothy Padget/Paget on 22 Jan 1835. Dorothy was born in Potter Township,
Center Hall. They had one child, a son, William Andrews
Krise, a teacher and later Superintendent of Public Schools in Centre
Hall, PA.
This picture is particularly interesting because, according to legend, when
Samuel Krise died, the family realized that they
had no picture of him. After his death on 20 Mar 1877, the family propped up his
corpse, added a top hat, and took his picture.
Samuel Krise is buried with the Padgets in the
Center Hill Cemetery, Center Hall, Pa.
