Warren S. Krise and Ella Genora Hammer Wedding Photo

Submitted by Sylvia Hott Sonneborn, York, Pa, granddaughter

Wedding photo of Warren Samuel Padget Krise and Ella Genora Hammer taken 7 Sept 1893.

Warren Samuel Padget Krise was born 2 Mar. 1869, in Johnstown, Cambria, Pa, to William Andrews Krise and Nancy E. Hunt. Warren died in Johnstown on 5 Feb. 1945.

Warren S. Krise had been elected to his third term as alderman in Roxbury, PA, when he died at the age of 75. He was prominent in Democratic politics and had served as a vital statistician in Johnstown. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the Williamsport Consistory and other Masonic groups. In 1940 the Old Fort Lodge 537 Free and Accepted Masons honored him in Centre Hall, PA, for an unbroken membership for 50 years. He was a native of Coopersdale and lived in Centre County from the time he was one- year-old until he was 21. In his early career, he was first a teacher and then a principal in Gazzam, Clearfield County. Upon the couple's return to Johnstown, PA, Mr. Krise engaged in the real estate business and insurance. For three years he was employed in the Cambria County recorder's office. From 1920 to 1932 he was the alderman of the Eighth Ward, and he maintained an office in his home at 1288 Franklin Street, Johnstown, PA. He was elected to that position for a third time near the time of his death, and he also made a vocation of tracing birth certificates.

His wife, Ella Genora Hammer Krise was born in Davidsville, Somerset, Pa, to Joseph Sleek Hammer and Elizabeth "Lizzie" Ann Barnhart. Ella died in Johnstown on 3 July 1965. Both are buried in Grandview Cemetery, Johnstown, PA. Both were members of the First Presbyterian Church.

Ella H. Krise succumbed at the age of 95, a former school teacher and a survivor of both major floods. She began her teaching career at the age of 17 in Feeder School, along the Menoher Highway, four miles from Johnstown. She taught school for 6 terms before marrying Warren S. Krise. She was the mother of eleven children and a homemaker known for quilting, braiding rugs, and crocheting. She remained active in the Golden Age Club, War Mothers, and the Republican Club. She and Mr. Krise were married 52 years at the time of his death.
