Warren S. Krise and Ella Genora Hammer 50th Wedding Anniversary

Warren Samuel Padget Krise and Ella Genora Hammer
taken on their 50th Wedding Anniversary on 7 Sept 1943.
Warren Samuel Padget Krise was born 2 Mar 1869,
in Johnstown, Cambria, Pa, to William Andrews Krise and
Nancy E. Hunt. Warren died in Johnstown on 5 Feb 1945.
Warren S. Krise had been elected to his third term
as alderman in Roxbury, PA, when he died at the age of 75. He was prominent in
Democratic politics and had served as a vital statistician in Johnstown. He was
a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the Williamsport Consistory and other
Masonic groups. In 1940 the Old Fort Lodge 537 Free and Accepted Masons honored
him in Centre Hall, PA, for an unbroken membership for 50 years. He was a native
of Coopersdale and lived in Centre County from the time he was one- year-old
until he was 21. In his early career, he was first a teacher and then a
principal in Gazzam, Clearfield County. Upon the couple's return to Johnstown,
PA, Mr. Krise engaged in the real estate business and insurance. For three years
he was employed in the Cambria County recorder's office. From 1920 to 1932 he
was the alderman of the Eighth Ward, and he maintained an office in his home at
1288 Franklin Street, Johnstown, PA. He was elected to that position for a third
time near the time of his death, and he also made a vocation of tracing birth
certificates.
His wife, Ella Genora Hammer Krise was born in
Davidsville, Somerset, Pa, to Joseph Sleek Hammer and
Elizabeth "Lizzie" Ann Barnhart. Ella died in Johnstown on 3 July 1965.
Both are buried in Grandview Cemetery, Johnstown, PA. Both were members of the
First Presbyterian Church.
Ella H. Krise succumbed at the age of 95, a former
school teacher and a survivor of both major floods. She began her teaching
career at the age of 17 in Feeder School, along the Menoher Highway, four miles
from Johnstown. She taught school for 6 terms before marrying
Warren S. Krise. She was the mother of eleven
children and a homemaker known for quilting, braiding rugs, and crocheting. She
remained active in the Golden Age Club, War Mothers, and the Republican Club.
She and Mr. Krise were married 52 years at the time of his death.
