Lewis Ruthers
Submitted by
Gigi Zaccagnini
Lewis Ruthers headstone is located in West Alexander, PA cemetery in
Washington County. He was in Co. K, 20th Illinois Infantry. He married Mary ??.
Their children were Charles, Isabella, Walter, Nora and Eliza. They raised their
children in Wheeling, WV.
The Muster Roll from the National Archives has the last name spelled "Reither"
on some of his papers, and "Ruther" on others. Today his descendents spell it "Ruthers".
Lewis was a substitute in the Civil War for Conrad Fricker, of Illinois. Lewis's
son Charles, is the submitter's great grandfather, and he spelled the last name
with the "s".
The submitter would love to hear from anyone who is also a descendent of
Lewis and Mary Ruther and share information. She would like to know Mary
Ruther's maiden name. On the 1880 census, it says she was born in Virginia, and
both of her parents were born in Ohio. Her estimated birth year is 1843.
If you know more information on Lewis Ruthers, please let
Gigi know.
