Lewiston High School basketball

It was not an auspicious year for the team, which went 3-6, losing 47-3 in the final game of the season to Moscow.

This photo did not appear in the 1919 yearbook; so the names had been lost. However, I have been able to reconstruct the starting 5:

Letf-to-right: Fritz Hendrickson (guard), Raymond Ganzans (captain, forward), Maurice Libert (guard), coach Victor Hall, Allan Ramey (forward) and Chester Hinman (center)

AND NOW FOR THE REST OF THE STORY...

Maurice went on to earn a mechanical engineering degree from the University of Michigan. He was hired by General Motors and was stationed in San Francisco. He and his wife Alta were killed when their PanAm 747 was struck by a KLM jet on the runway in Tenerife, Canary Islands, on March 27, 1977. More more than 580 passengers and crew members died with them. It is still the deadliest aviation disaster in history.
