Henry Marxmiller

Henry Marxmiller

Henry Marxmiller (Marxmuller/ Marxmueller)was born on 28 April 1842 in Germany. He died 17 October 1917 in Watseka, IL. (Information from his obituary). He immigrated to the US with his parents and siblings in the late 1840s. His parents were Dietrich and Catherine Marxmuller. They were from Baden-Baden, Wurttemberg, or Frankfort, Germany. Henry was a Union Civil War Veteran and a harness maker like his father. The family lived in Kentucky and Illinois. Henry had a harness shop in Watseka, Il on Walnut Street. His home was located on North Fourth Street in Watseka, IL. His 1st wife was Anna. She died around the time their son William was born). They 2 kids Laura and William). He was honorably discharged from his service in the Union around this time. Henry then married 2nd wife Mary Melissa Betts on 19 July 1870 in Shelby, IL by minister A.L. Kellar. The source of this information came from their marriage certificate. They had 6 children: Effie (Jamison), Grace (Lewis), Edward H., George, Homer, and Mary Melissa(Reinhard). Most of this family were born in Shelby, IL. Wife Mary died when their youngest daughter Mary Melissa(Reinhard)was around 2 or 3 years old. He then married Emma K. Peters who was a seamstress. After many years together Henry died at his home in Watseka. Emma later died at Urbana Hospital in IL from an illness. Henry is buried with his 3rd wife Emma Peters at Rossville Cemetery in Vermillion county, Illinois. I would like to find the grave of his 2nd wife Mary. She is buried somewhere in Illinois possibly in Watseka, IL, or maybe in Rossville, IL or Danville, IL area? Mary M (Betts) was not listed on the Rossville Cemetery burial index and map where Henry and Emma can be found. I also could not find a burial marker at the Rossville cemetery for her either.
Other information: Henry had an uncle John Marxmiller brother of Dietrich who also came to the US. Henry's siblings were Christian, Catherine (Hubert), Frederick William, Adam, Mary (Corley), Rosa/ Rosanna (McGrath), John. Most of the family in the United States spell their name as Marxmiller. The descendants of this German family came to Kentucky and then spread out across the U.S. into Illinois, Indiana, California and Texas, to name a few. One of the Campbell, Kentucky churches where the family attended was called St. John's Evangelical Church (later named St. John's United Church). The Marxmiller family name is found on a few transcribed records that are dated between 1849-1851 as Marxmuller and Marxmueller.
