Fairfield NE Railroad Depot

The depot burned on Halloween night in 1938 due to embers from a passing train. The embers landed on the roof and set it on fire. The Fairfield Fire Department did not have adequate equipment nor a pumper truck to spray water on the roof. The closest one was in Edgar and by the time they arrived it was too late to save the depot. Had the Fire Department had the equipment they could've saved the depot. This is what was told to my dad by his father who was on the fire department at the time of the fire.
