Paul Sturtevant 1898
Paul Sturtevant was born in 1876 in Conneautville, the second of three sons of John C. and Sarah Gleason Sturtevant.
He was the manager of the Allegheny College Base Ball Team in 1898. He was a sophomore in 1898, when this photo was taken, and a member of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. He graduated Allegheny College in 1900.
Paul became an investment banker in New York City. He was active in church work, was treasurer since 1924 of the World council of Christian Education and Sunday School Association, on the general board of the National Council of Churches of Christ in USA, and was a trustee of Christ Church Methodist, Park Ave., New York City.
In 1915, he became a trustee of Allegheny College. In association with his brother Watkin, they established the Sturtevant Lectureship which brings nationally known speakers to Allegheny College.
Paul married Charlotte Heiner from Butler, PA. 20 Apr 1905 at Butler.
Paul Sturtevant died in 1957 in New York City. His obituary appeared in the New York Times, Nov. 29, 1957 (page 29:1). He is buried in Holmwood Cemetery, Pittsburgh.
Charlotte Heiner Sturtevant died at her home at Cross River House, Katonah, NY, in 1973.
