Harmon Irons and Julia Ann Phillips [Gilly]were their names. Elizabeth Garland was the daughter of Daniel Lafayette Garland #74469952 And Elizabeth Grange# 74470319 Daniel was the son of Humphry Garland, rev war, Brandywine, and Elizabeth Blankenship.there is a story that Patience told to her grandaughter, Juanita Tice, that during the civil war Patience lived with her aunt and helped her bury the silverware, and that Patience had married a soldier.also, she had worked in a thread factory in n.c.the Irons and Garlands had registered Cherokee in the family, but not our direct line.Patience told Juanita that those cousins were "the real Cherokee". Patience's family moved back and forth between Macon co and Cherokee co NC. and Monroe co Tn.our Garlands are in the Shady Grove cemetery in Cherokee co N C. Harmon,Garland,Grange,Phillips are Melungeon names. the names Peter and Lafayette go all down the line. the John Irons shot while turkey hunting was our John Irons' nephew.people have come clear across the US looking for Patience's grave, and several of us have gone clear back to the rez looking for her cherokee roots.there is no record of Patience's family in the Cherokee rolls. many familys have the cherokee grandma story that they have heard all their lives, most of these people from the Appalachian mountain area turn out to be Melungeon. one of Patience's sons, Calvin Lafate Davidson, had an extra thumb, polydactylism being a Mediteranian trait,we're probably Melungeon or black dutch. none of the Davidson grandkids attended college on Indian grants. ggrandaughter, Judy, named one of her racehorses "patience irons" neither the Cherokee Nation or Keetooah Band of Oklahoma or the Qualla Band of Eastern Cherokee will accept your application without a roll number for your ancester.
