His death was detailed in The Marion Massacre by Mike Lawing
"...during a textile strike in 1929 Marion, NC that led to the fatal shooting of six employees of Marion Manufacturing. Douglas Eller, a reporter from the Asheville Citizen, testified that he did not see any shots come from the strikers but that it was possible shots were fired that he did not see. The dead were Randolph Hall, 22, and Sam Vickers, 54. George Jonas, 65 and Luther Bryson, 23, died shortly after they arrived at the hospital. Jonas still had the handcuffs on his wrists as he died in the hospital. T. L. Carver, 50, and J. Will Roberts, 18 died within a few days."
