Christmastime in Youngstown, Ohio, 1958

Photograph of downtown Youngstown appeared on the cover of the Youngstown Jaycee publication of the Youngstown Junior Chamber of Commerce, Volume 2, Number 3, December 1958.

Joe Dannery, Editor of the Youngstown Jaycee, got this photograph from the Vindicator Newspaper (Newspaper for Youngstown, OH).

Do you recognize the building - or know of any of the businesses in the building? Please let me know.

something I remembered

born 1958 in Youngstown, and as a kid coming down Mahoning Ave. and seeing the "Mechanical Man" all lite up, which was the ISALYS building. (I shall always Love You sweetheart)is what my mom would tell me it stood for...
I believe it was far right of the photo though.

Building

The building to the left of the Christmas tree is the Mahoning National Bank building. The tall building to the right of the tree is the Central Tower. The photo is taken looking Southwest from the Square. I suspect that the lighted windows forming a cross are in honor of the Christmas season, and not a coincidence.
