Francis and William Moriarty

Francis Charles and William Thomas Moriarty, sons of Daniel and Margaret Moriarty. They were born in Hornellsville, NY, in 1874. The family moved to Marienville, Forest County, in 1888. Daniel worked as an engineer on the Pittsburg & Western Railroad. The sons also worked for the P & W.

Photo taken around 1892.

An item in the Marienville Express newspaper dated Sept 6, 1894, states that "Will Matson went to Foxburg Friday and caught for Francis Moriarty with the Foxburg team and helped to defeat the Emlenton club Saturday. Moriarty and Matson will be the battery for the Marienville club in the game to be played with Tionesta next Monday."

Francis followed the oil business to West Virginia and then to Kansas. William moved to Pittsburgh and continued to work for the railroad.
