Hotel St Catherine on Catalina Island, California
The St. Catherine itself isn't in this photo. It was on a small cove around the point the Casino was built on. The vehicle is the hotel's jitney, used to transport guests between the hotel and the town of Avalon where the steamers from Los Angeles landed.
My dad worked for the Catalina Island Company in the 1930s, and drove one of the jitneys for a while, but that was probably more than a decade after this photo was taken. Judging from the dresses on the women, this photo probably dates from the late teens, early twenties. The St. Catherine was built in 1915.
I live in Catalina, have for over 50 years. Joe Vogel your name is very familiar. The Avalon Library is actively looking for old photos taken in Catalina. They have a website. If you're on Facebook you might enjoy the "You know you're from Catalina when.." group. thanks for the great photo!

Thanks for the information. Now I have to figure out what the family was doing in California when they never left Oklahoma.
